Aquadue technology now has one more option

New installation possibilities for multi-purpose split heat pumps, thanks to the Kit Sherpa Flex Box AS: a compact system for semi-recessed or surface mounting, inside or outside the building

Brescia, February 2022 - Heat pumps are a key technology for converting domestic comfort to electric power and exploiting renewable energies as much as possible, also in the residential sector. To help the ecological transition and encourage the spread of this technology, manufacturers are called upon to work to make the installation of heat pumps more flexible in new buildings and, even more so, in renovations. In this context, Olimpia Splendid presents a compact heat pump system, which introduces new installation possibilities for a particularly efficient patented technology.

The new Kit Sherpa Flex Box AS
The key element of the system is a self-supporting technical cabinet in galvanised steel (or RAL 9016 powder-coated) designed to allow high flexibility of installation: free-standing or semi-recessed, inside as well as outside the building, though in a weather-protected area. The cabinet contains:
a Sherpa Aquadue S2 E Small heat pump, available in 4 power sizes up to 10 kW with R32 gas; a 150-litre stainless steel DHW tank, characterised by high thermal insulation (class C); a 28-litre stainless steel technical tank, to guarantee efficient (class C) and safe operation. In case of outdoor installation, it is possible to combine the new Kit Sherpa Flex Box AS with an accessory to remotely control the heat pump display (up to 10 metres distance).

The patented Aquadue technology
The new Kit Sherpa Flex Box AS is a unique system of its kind, because it offers new installation possibilities to the patented Aquadue technology by Olimpia Splendid, already available in the hanging and tower versions. At our production site in Cellatica (BS), we have in fact been manufacturing multi-purpose heat pumps with a double refrigeration circuit for some time now, which make it possible to cool in summer, heat in winter and produce DHW up to 75°C at the same time, with maximum efficiency (up to A+++ in heating medium climate) and autonomously, i.e. without the need for a boiler or thermal solar. This is an innovation that improves comfort and further increases efficiency in the presence of a photovoltaic system: heat pumps with Aquadue technology are in fact equipped with a contact that increases the self-consumption of energy produced by the photovoltaic system, storing the overproduction. This makes it possible to reduce the amount of electricity to be purchased from the grid, even when solar irradiation is absent.

The first installation in Palermo
The new compact heat pump system is already a reality within a major real estate project in the city of Palermo, which has a hundred or so newly built flats. In an area where the diffusion of traditional heat pumps for the production of DHW is penalised by high summer temperatures, and despite the fact that the type of building precluded the installation of solar thermal panels (widespread in these climatic contexts), the client was looking for an alternative to traditional methane gas generators. Aquadue technology presented itself as the ideal solution to guarantee the production of DHW up to 75°C, even in the presence of high summer temperatures and with greater efficiency, thanks to heat recovery during the long hot months. The outdoor free-standing installation was made possible with the new Sherpa Flex Box AS Kit, which respected both the client's requirements and the building's masonry type, which ruled out built-in or semi-recessed installations.
