New installation of a hot water and air conditioning system in a 12-story residential building
Centralized efficiency and widespread comfort for a modern multi-story residential complex
Location: Palermo - Italy
Building type: Apartment building
Climate zone: Warm, B (IT)
System: Air-to-water heat pumps combined with fan coil terminals
The construction of a newly built 12-story residential building located in Palermo involved the implementation of a centralized system for domestic hot water production and space climate control, with a focus on energy efficiency and system scalability.
The project covered a large apartment building with a system designed to efficiently serve all residential units and common areas.
The system needed to ensure high service continuity and reliable performance even under extreme weather conditions, particularly during the high summer temperatures typical of the Sicilian climate.
It was also essential to optimize technical spaces by avoiding solutions that took up indoor volumes or required built-in or semi-recessed installations, while maintaining high scalability and straightforward system management.

DHW production is handled by over 50 Sherpa Aquadue air-to-water heat pumps installed outdoors in self-supporting technical enclosures and integrated with Sherpa Flex Box kits for system management and distribution.
The choice of Sherpa Aquadue was driven by the need to guarantee high performance even during the high summer temperatures characteristic of the Sicilian climate. The system ensures reliable domestic hot water production even in challenging weather conditions, while also allowing heat recovery during periods of peak efficiency over the long summer months.
Using the Sherpa Flex Box kits made it possible to install the units outdoors without resorting to built-in or semi-recessed solutions and without taking up indoor space, thereby optimizing technical layout and living area footprint.
Indoor climate control is provided by over 100 Bi2 fan coils, selected to ensure uniform comfort, efficiency, and adaptability across the various apartment layouts throughout the building.
